Peer review worksheet for Paper 3

11 October 2006

On Monday, 16 October, you will need to bring your draft of Paper 3 to class for peer review. It may be helpful to bring multiple copies so that each reviewer can have a clean copy to mark. At least two classmates should review your paper; you will turn in your draft, along with each reviewers answers to the worksheet questions, when you submit your final paper on 23 October.

Changes to Course Calendar, 10/6

6 October 2006

I’ve made changes to the Course Calendar (pdf), the most important of which is to the due dates for Paper 3. Your DRAFT of Paper 3 is now due Monday, 16 October; your final version is now due Monday, 23 October.

Changes to the Course Calendar

20 September 2006

Please be sure that you are working from the lastest version of the Course Calendar. I distributed copies of the revised calendar in class on Monday (9/18). If you didn’t get a printed copy in class, you can download a pdf here.

Good subject-matter questions (from 8/30)

1 September 2006

As you think about the question you will work on for Paper 1 (due Friday, 8 September), keep in mind these characteristics of a good subject-matter question:

  1. It is problematic, meaning that the answer is not known or agreed upon.
  2. It is significant, meaning that it is worth pursuing (you can answer the question, “So what?”).
  3. It is interesting to the writer, meaning that you are genuinely engaged with the question—it is a real question for you and one that you care about.
